Discover Canton, Georgia

There are plenty of reasons to call Canton, GA, home, from its rich history to its modern amenities. Our new Owen Preserve community of new homes in Canton GA could be just what  you’re looking for, so join the VIP list and learn a bit more about this attractive city.

Canton, which is the seat of Cherokee County, has seen a boom in population growth in the last 25 years. From roughly 7,700 in 2000 to more than 32,000 in 2020, Canton’s proximity to Atlanta and other nearby towns and cities like Roswell, Alpharetta, Marietta, Kennesaw, and Woodstock, has made it an ideal place for work and play.

The city’s name has changed a few times in its long history. It was known as Cherokee Court in 1832, soon followed by Etowah, and then in 1834, it took on the name Canton, and yes, it is a reference to the Chinese city, because the townspeople were hoping to turn the city into a center of silk production. By 1879, with the arrival of the Marietta and North Georgia Railroad, the city became a tourist destination for those looking to escape the more intense summer heat further south.

Today, Canton isn’t just a suburb for those working in Atlanta; it has its own vibrant economy with jobs in fields such as healthcare services, manufacturing, education, and retail. However, if  you do want to work in Atlanta – located approximately 40 miles south of Canton – or other nearby cities, there’s easy access to I-575 and other transport routes. Plus, you get the benefit of a more relaxed, small town lifestyle without giving up bigger city perks.

Canton has plenty going on locally, with a range of shopping and dining options for your daily needs and for fun. This family friendly city is also full of events throughout the year with a lively arts scene, as found in the annual Riverfest Arts and Crafts Festival and the Canton Festival of the Arts. You’re also surrounded by plenty of nature in Canton, where you’ll find beautiful parks such as the tranquil Brown Park, Boling Park where you can enjoy trails and huge green spaces for a variety of games, Etowah River Park for shore fishing, canoeing, trails, and more, and Heritage Park, which combines the area’s history with plenty of fun and games and events, from the splash pad to outdoor concerts and so much more.

The city is served by the Cherokee County School District, which boasts a number of outstanding elementary, middle, and high schools. Along with attention to academic excellence, there’s an array of extracurricular activities, as well, to ensure there’s something for every student.

This is just a hint of all that Canton has to offer. If you’re interested in learning more about new homes in Canton GA, contact us today and be sure to join our VIP list to get all of the first details on our new Owen Preserve community.
