The 10th Annual Guns and Hoses Race

The 10th Annual Guns and Hoses Race

A guns and hoses race may sound a bit strange, but this annual Cherokee County race is actually a wonderful way to raise money for select county charities. In its 10th year, this race is a friendly way for law enforcement and firefighters to battle it out to see who can raise the most money for their chosen charity. Make donations, cheer on your favorite side, and even get involved by running the race yourself.

The Cherokee Recreation and Parks Agency’s 10th annual Guns and Hoses 5K Run/Walk and Fun Run will be held Feb. 27 at Hobgood Park. The fun run starts at 7:30 a.m., and the 5K begins at 8 a.m.

Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services have chosen the Goshen Valley Boys Ranch, a non-profit home serving young men in the state’s foster care system, as their charity this year. Meanwhile, the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office is supporting the Cherokee Sheriff’s Foundation, which provides funding for charities and people in need locally in Cherokee County.

If you decide to take part in the race, you can choose which team you want to represent when you register, and a portion of the registration fee goes toward that team’s charity. The 5K participants will receive a T-shirt in their race packet and shirt sizes are guaranteed for those who register by February 12. Participants in the one-mile fun run will receive a commemorative medal, while the 5K will have awards given in male and female divisions in a variety of age groups.

Sign up today for the Guns and Hoses Race and get your feet moving in support of your team and charity of choice. Even if you don’t join in the race, go cheer on all of the racers on the day and don’t forget to make a donation to one or both of the charities. Cherokee County will be made that much better by all of those who get involved.
